I am a Somatic Psychotherapist with previous training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Although I believe cognitive therapies have a valid place in psychotherapy to help manage symptoms of internal distress and to increase functionality in life, (I use many techniques from ACT, DBT, CPT and Mindfulness), I also believe there is a deeper level of sub-conscious healing that is possible. My desire is to help you heal these inner wounds and impacts from trauma, whether caused by environmental events such as abuse in childhood, or difficult relationships, work stress or perhaps personal loss. I believe the body can hold traumatic memories outside of our consciousness. These inner wounds drive our thoughts, beliefs and behaviours, sometimes in a way that is not helpful or functional and can cause us great distress in many forms, such as anxiety, depression, lack of enjoyment in life, feelings of being stuck, anger or dysfunctional relationships. By working somatically, we can heal these wounds to enable a different way of being, creating a transformation in how you feel about yourself and the world around you. It is very gentle therapy taken at a pace that is comfortable for you. Somatic therapy is guided by mindfulness, is wholistic in honouring the intelligence that our bodies, minds, hearts and spirits hold for us and explores our inner world with non-judgmental curiosity. It allows the opportunity for profound change.
